I have a vaio VGN-SZ2VP/x. I have two particular problems.
I have tried a few version of linux. Now my problem is particulalry related with Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS (2.6.9-34.EL). Any suggetions on other linux is welcomed.
1. I cannot take advantage of the Duo core processor. My install only runs on EL not ELsmp.
2. I cannot take advantage of NVIDIA Geforce Go 7400. The driver only supoort 1024X700. the sound and video and everything else is not supported.
I have checked with NVIDIA and rebuild a driver is appears not works with kenel 2.6.9...
what a wast! I could go for a much lower spec machine.
Sorry - no sympathy here ...
Vaios do not support Linux - if you have problems I am sorry, but do not blame the machine for you changing the goal-posts.
Perhaps you should have saved your money and gone elsewhere for a computer.
Hello, i have a sz1M/B (quite similar, i think) and with Ubuntu works everything fine, including dual processor, sound, both graphic cards....

You may as well load Win95 on if your going to use Linux.Just as useless IMO.You should be realy considering Vista if anything.
I agree with the original poster, we should have the scope to use Linux on a VAIO- and a few people have been successful.
