VGN - FE41Z DVD / Camera Utility Problems

I have 2 problems with my Vaio VGN-FE41Z

1) The CD/DVD is now not recognised in the Device Manager and therefore does not work.

2) The Viao Camera Utility programe no longer listed in the Programmes List. Invariably the camera does not work or a message appears saying it is being used by another piece of software.

Both of these problems seemed to occur after the first Viao software upgrade that I installed (almost a year ago now and still not working correctly)

I don't seem to be able to find a fourum link to solve these problems nor is there a specific download that would seem to solve the problems. The trouble is I am reluctant to install upgrades or downloads because of what happened the first time.

Any suggestions ?
