NWZ-W273 waterproof walkman

NWZ-W273 waterproof walkman

Hi, My NWZ-W273 waterproof walkman wont work. I have contacted Sony Support who told me to download current software, which I had already told them I had done and to reset the device, which again I had done numerous times, and told them I have. I have now been told "that the product that you have referred to is what Sony describe as an 'IWX' product. This term describes a product that is not economic to repair if it fails, and is therefore classified as an 'in warranty exchange' item during the one year guarantee period. In the event that an IWX product fails during the guarantee, it must be returned to the supplying retailer for examination/exchange."

The item has a Sony EU guarantee card with it and under the UK Sales of Goods act and EU legislation are not Sony responsible for this repair/replacement.

The problem is the red OPR light only stays on briefly, suggesting that the battery is charged, but when the Walkman is switched on the green OPR light blinks 14 or 15 times, I can hear a faint echoing sound in the headphones, then the green OPR goes out and nothing.

Thanks,

Mal

No your rights under the sales of goods act is between you and the retailer NOT the manufacturer.
If the product has developed a fault then you should contact the retailer that you purchased the walkman from.

I have an NWZ-E445 (bought for my wife) that just needs a new battery...

Sony Customer services does not seem to exist, and having also been told that this is 'IWX' and now over a year old, spending £100 for a 'High-Grade product is a big rip-off. All other companies at least have spares available... I mean... a BATTERY???

To quote PinkFloyd :  '... For want of the price of tea and a slice...the old man died...'   could it be the epitaph for SONY?

I have previously owned (and unfortunately still do) a High-end Camcorder that went for repairs only to fail again within a month, and a 32" full HD TV with a built-in tuner that just does not work, and a satellite connection that will not accept a satellite signal...

I have rapidly come to the decision to NEVER spend any money  again on SONY products, and recommend that anyone considering doing so should seriously consider that you will get absolutely zero assistance should the product develop ANY form of problem...Do not believe the hype of 'WARRANTY' - it means nothing.

May I humbly advise the CEO of Sony, that people are buying TURNTABLES in high quantities here in the UK... These items reproduce music from Vinyl pressings called records. It may be old technology... but at least it works, and you won't lose your precious music or video collections.
