The latest FW upgrade seems to have provided the following irritating 'feature':
Whenever my Z4 loses or regains reception, it vibrates twice at me. This is very annoying and unnecessary, and how do I turn this 'feature' off?

@Rickard wrote:We don't have any general notification for signal loss so this sounds a bit strange.
Does this also happen when the phone is in safe mode?
For the Z3 Compact, the device uses the default notification sound whenever there is no service. This means when entering buildings, subways, or fringe T-Mobile service areas I get a notification BOTH for signal loss and reacquisition.
Signals occur in normal and safe modes
Putting the device on vibrate isn't too convenient, because I like my other notifications to sound off -- reminders for appointments, tasks, etc.
Many thanks for looking into this
Hi!
After making a software repair the issue persists.
now I hace software version 23.4.A.1.232
No other apps or updates were installed.
Once the top left corner switches from mobile operator name to "No service" the phone makes the "Blink" sound for message notification.
Now I will restore the backup I took before software repair but I'm afraid nothing will change.
Regards,
Mihai
Thanks for testing safe mode and a software repair.
Could i ask you to take a log file from the phone after it has given this notification and send it to me?
To do this:
Settings > About phone > Build number, tap 7 times on the build number
Go back and select Developer options and turn on "USB debugging"
When you got this notification:
Settings > Developer options, select "Take bug report". When the report is ready, tap the notification, share it to Google Drive and then send me a link in a private message.
We have checked the logs PetroNET sent us (thanks!) and we believe the notification you hear might be a voicemail notification.
Could you please try to turn the voicemail notification off and see if that helps? You can do that from Settings -> Call -> Voicemail -> Notification sound -> [use Sound picker app] -> None (at the top).
Hi Rikard,
You are right about the source of the notification.
Changing the voicemail notification sound to "none" has no effect and is playing the default notification sound.
If I change it to another sound from the list (Ex: Cricket - the most silent of all) I get this new sound notification when the phone is losing and regaining mobile reception.
it was annoying having the de default notification for emails, text messages and whatsapp messages and also for this signal loss/recover alert.
Next step in solving this issue would be to create a empty sound alert (or totally quiet) and select this one for voicemail notifications.
Thanks for your support.
PetroNet
Glad to hear that we could find the source
Strange though that the None option didn't work. I will forward that internally.
But a possible solution to remove the sound is, as you say, using an empty sound alert.

All well and good, but the question remains: how can we disable the signal loss notification altogether? I was in an older apartment building over the holidays and my phone was going on and off in my pocket constantly. Yes, I can put the phone on Silent or Vibrate, but then I need to remember to switch it back on later....not my strong suit. Plus i couldn't receive appointment notifications or notifications that can occur over WiFi. I may not be a developer for Sony and/or Android, but it seems to me that this is a simple enough setting to add: If [Event], then [Action]....I mean that's as basic as it gets.
Have you checked so that the signal you hear is not the same as what we found in the logs we got from PetroNET?
What we found when checking the logs from PetroNET is that it's not a notification about signal loss. It's a notification from the operator when it regains network that you have a new voice mail. Try selecting another sound from Settings -> Call -> Voicemail -> Notification sound -> [use Sound picker app] and see if the signal you hear changes. Note that there may something not working with the "None" option so try selecting another signal.

Yes and no (sorry to be so confusing)
I have experienced the same issue as @PetroNET -- a Voice Mail alert contantly goes off when I am in and out of servie areas, however I still get an alert ...sometimes...when the phone goes in and out of service and no VM Message
Hi!
I’m on 3UK and the voicemail notification is something managed by the mobile network operator, I get the notification even if I don't have messages in voicemail (new messages or saved messages) and on the top left corner I have the voicemail icon showing I have 1 voicemail message.
If I have more voice messages the number increases but that number is never 0. If I tap on it will call the voicemail on a number that I never configured and is not saved in my address book so it was pushed by mobile operator.
When I have a new voicemail I also receive a text message from operator so I’m aware of the new voice mail message. Replacing the voicemail notification sound with a an empty audio file sorted the issue for me as that notification was redundant..

PetroNET
