2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435

2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360

4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

still annoying that we don't have 5.1 in Netflix, how hard can it be...:(

I just did a "initial setup" again, and this time it asked a question about, Freeview, Freesat, Virgin, etc.

I picked Freesat and the channel list now seems to be in some kind of order, but it still does not populate it with a guide. So is this TV, 43W807 Freesat compatible or not? If it isn't why does it ask about a Freesat input?

Still getting some low level "hissing" sound on some movies played from the NAS, not sure if it is linked to the Clearsound + setting.

Does anyone know if the Youview update coming "Next Year" will work with the satellite input?

Wanted to add, we got a HT-CT80 soundbar with this TV, and with it positioned infront of the TV the remote for the TV doesn't work.

Thats because your blocking the sensor with it. I have the same setup and I just have to raise the remote slightly more.

I have the hissing sound when clear audio or surround is on. So even when the apps run in 5.1, we still have a problem...

I've got a KDL-43W755C with an HT-CT380 sound bar. When connected via HDMI ARC or Optical the audio cuts out intermittently for a second or so, this is extremely annoying and happens quite often. When I switch back to the internal TV speakers the sound is perfect. It happens with Freeview content but doesn't seem to be an issue with content I play back through Plex. Has anyone else experienced a similar issue with a sound bar attached? I thought I could live with this TV's numerous quirks but I'm getting to the end of my tether, it's ridiculous that 2 compatible Sony products purchased together in a bundle do not work together.

I had issues with a sony sound bar, CT370. What i found worked for me, was too do a full tv reset after the last patch, then set the tv up again from scratch. Since doing this i have had no more sound issues with the sound bar, (this does not inclued sound lag, as this issue has not been fixed by sony yet)

Thanks! Will give this a try tomorrow and see if it improves things.

I've got the HT-CT380 soundbar as well (using ARC) and suffer the same drop in sound but it doesn't happen that often for me.  But I do get lip sync issues on the sound bar all the time.  It does seem worse when we are using an external source (usually our YouView box).  Lip sync issues with the TV speakers seems to have gone with the latest update but using the sound bar it is definitely worse.  I can't believe Sony can't fix a simple thing like this.  It has got so bad the wife refuses to use the sound bar now!

I found returning to "Guide" and then going back again to the programme cleared the fault for a while.

But it WILL come back again.

I now use a Humax box for my viewing.

It has a workable EPG.
