I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!
1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435
2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.
3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360
4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.
As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.
Youll probably get differing opinions on that.
To be fair, 4K demo reels in bright colours on YouTube look great. That's the highlight of this TV.
Blu Ray picture quality is good, but the contrast is disappointing and there's a lot of reflection on the screen in certain circumstances in dark scenes which is really disappointing. This is using the "cinema pro" setting.
The interface is clunky and slow, all the missing features are a huge issue and I was watching a Blu Ray last night and had to turn off the TV half way through as the pic and sound had gone out of sync.
I have a Denon AVR connected to Bose speakers. The audio system is in standby when the TV is switched on from standby. I did not have this problem with my previous Sony TV. it used to switch on and off immediately along with the TV.
Hi
I need your help please.
When i am playing movies using Plex app or hdd connected to usb with kodi, i see that the picture is not smooth, the picture shakes on fast moves.any idea ???
Guys, is there a way to force the TV to only see 5ghz networks? Currently I have had to separate the networks on my Apple Time Capsule otherwise it won't connect to 5ghz. The only time I can see this is when wifi direct is on which allows auto 2.4 or auto 5ghz, but this kills my internet! The ethernet is only 100mb whereas the wifi is gigabit so obviously i want to use wireless.
This causes issues with my iPad Air 2 and iPhone 6s which both want to connect to 2.4ghz as priority rather than before where it would dynamically select the best signal...
Open kodi, click on add videos, click on Browse. Select the folder on the HDD or network drive. Then you can play all files on the folder or the selected video.
Picked mine up yesterday 49" X8309C along with the HT-CT780 Sound bar.
not noticed any lip sync issues, however the HDMI ARC between TV and Soundbar does not work correctly. I can get it working by using optical cable but it's frustrating how I get no sound through using HDMI.
The HDMI allows me to change volume up and down on sound bar with TV remote, just no sound. As soon as I switch sound bar off, tv speakers activate.
tried other High speed HDMI cables and had no joy. Tempted to call curry sauce tomorrow and see if an exchange will sort issue out.
In 99.9% of cases ethernet will be faster than wifi. Even on an 100Mb nic.
Even if these Sony TVs had AC wireless cards, which I doubt, ethernet would be faster in most cases.
I had a very siumilar problem with the same TV and same sound bar.
With me the setup I have is Virgin + Xbox + Aux -> HDMI Switch -> TV -> Sound Bar (ARC).
While it seemed initially to work, once all set up I had similar problems.
The issue was the Virgin box. As far as I could tell it just blasts ARC-style commands down the HDMI cables and generally messes everything up. I resolve it by:
- Check soundbar has ARC enabled in settings
- Turn everything off at the wall
- Disconnect all HDMI cables
- Connect TV to Soundbar on HDMI 3 (ARC)
- Turn on TV
- Turn on soundbar
- These should now work (if not it's a different problem)
- Plug in other cables
- Turn other devices back on
- Everything should now works
I hope that helps. Like I said the problem was very frustrating and yours sounds similar so I'd give this a go before braving Currys customer services!
