dcr-hc53e not reconised on xp, win 7 or vista when connected via usb

My dcr-hc53e can not be picked up when connected by usb on any of our laptops or desktop all dif specs running xp, vista and win7 i get message check ilink. i have tried a different lead but still same cam reconises lead connected if i switch to easy i get message you can not use this with usb. Anyone any ideas its driving me nuts i have never been able to use this feature in all the yrs ive had the camera?

Hi darrenpp and welcome.

The USB connection is not supported in Vista or Windows 7.  You will need to get an iLink cable (aka. Firewire, DV) which is generically supported by Windows and import into something like Windows Movie Maker or another editing program.  I presume this is why you are getting the message "Check iLink".

This requires that you have a Firewire/iLink/DV input to your computer.

USB should be supported in XP but you will need the driver on the original software disc.
