The 'Data Error' display is almost certainly a problem addressing the internal hard drive. You can get it checked out at a service centre but it may work out to be quite expensive to repair.
A good alternative is to record to memory card instead. If you happen to have one, try it and see if the error recurs. If it doesn't, assuming you have a reasonably fast card, the camera should work as well as it did with the internal drive.
