CD DVD RW problems

I have a vaio notebook with a DW-D56A Disk drive,
It will not recognize DVD RW disks I have tryed both + and - of different brands,
and have also done a full system recover but still no luck,
Now whent i try to back up or create recovery disks the computer just spits out the disk and tells me to insert a writeable disk as this type of media is not recognized any ideas??????????????????????

Hi Stubro,

All you can do is make sure you have the latest firmware for the DW-D56A drive installed. Look on the downloads page for your model to see if the 'Firmware update for Sony DW-D56A PFS3-2' is available.

Unfortunately, this is a drive that has failed frequently in the past and the only solution is often to replace the drive. Have a read here: -

I updated the firm wear befor i did the restore.
Can you recomend a replacement drive,
